Blog Post #1: Tips on choosing the best durians

Not choosing a good quality durian can ruin your entire experience and impression of the goodness of durians. These are some ways which can help you in making a better choice when purchasing durians.

Shape and husk of durian

First and foremost, look out for the shape and the husk of the durian. Usually, oddly shaped durians are of inferior quality which may also affect its taste. They are likely to have lesser chambers which means fewer durian flesh to eat. Check the husk of the durian for holes and signs of rotting which may mean that the durian may be eaten by an animal or infected by parasites.

Smell of the durian

Be sure to smell along the indentations of the durian where it is closest to the flesh. If it's ripe, a strong fresh durian smell can be detected. Otherwise, the unripe ones will give off a raw durian smell. Refrain from smelling the bottom of the husk as it is the thickest part of the durian. Dishonest durian sellers may attempt to unload these unripe durians to you, and this can help you in preventing it.
